Children’s Ministry
Children are a vital part of the church. We offer Nursery, Children’s Sunday School, and Children’s Church. We also have a nice playground where the kids love to go after church services each Sunday. During the summer we offer Vacation Bible School and Youth Summer Camp. After the services are over each Sunday the kids are encouraged to stop by Pastor Aaron’s Study to get a piece of candy (the door is open and adults are encourage to stop by also) , this is a way for the kids to get to know Pastor Aaron and ask questions that they might need a some help figuring out the answers to.
Our Pastor
Pastor Aaron Sligar
We welcomed Pastor Aaron and Ms. Jill September 01, 2024. They have recently moved from West Virginia to Duette, Florida. Pastor Aaron has an extensive background in ministry that began as a teenager teaching Sunday School and has included children’s ministry, youth ministry, church planting, and Lead Pastor. Pastor Aaron also has served in the Southern Baptist Convention as a Trustee at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary as well as the Finance Chairman and the President for the West Virginia Convention of Southern Baptist. Pastor Aaron and Ms. Jill have a passion for children and youth ministries as well as family ministries. Pastor Aaron is committed to preach the whole counsel of the Word of God and believes that the entire church has a mission to reach the lost with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Church History
Our Church History
Dry Prairie Baptist Church was established in 1888 in the northeast corner of Manatee County, in the rural Duette community with twenty-five charter members. The first building was erected in a grove of pines off Duette Road a few miles south of Highway 62. The church moved into a second building in 1913 at the same location. In August of 1948 this building was moved to a new location on Highway 62 next to the Duette School on five acres of land donated by a benevolent member of the community.
In 1952 a new concrete block auditorium was added for worship services and the old structure converted into Sunday school rooms. Sometime later the old building was removed and replaced by the block structure, which is still in use. With the donation of an additional five acres of land, another educational building was added, and later the church added a large fellowship hall, which is well used, especially for our first-Sunday dinners.
Dry Prairie Baptist Church has always had a reputation for old-fashioned gospel singing, powerful preaching, and a strong bond of fellowship. This friendly and loving congregation reaches out to minister to the community, whether they are members of our church or not. Guests will find a warm welcome here.
